The atmosphere in this firing was oxidized (as opposed to reduced) so the celadon glaze came on this vase came out a creamy color rather than blue/green. The glaze is shiny and crazed.

I make these high-fired porcelain pieces once a year in the fall, with Guy Wolff. I first threw the vase on the wheel and then painted the design using cobalt (blue). When bisqued, Guy dips the piece into celadon glaze and then fires it at cone 10 in his propane-fuelled outdoor kiln. The weather conditions, the fluctuations in temperature, the amount of oxygen in the kiln and the location of the piece within the kiln (the height of the shelf it's placed on) all play a part in how the glaze and decoration appears in the end.
