ABOUT Rajiv

I was born in Toronto, Canada to parents who emigrated from Sri Lanka. I attended Wexford School for the Arts (high school) before earning a degree in Art History and Classical Civilization from The University of Toronto.
For years my claim to fame was playing Kevin G. in Mean Girls, but in recent years my DIY/How-To videos on YouTube have amassed over 20 million views from people across the globe who share my passion for all things domestic and handmade. This has brought such meaning to my work. The greatest honor from these videos is receiving feedback from viewers who tell me that they now practice something that I've shown (like ironing or washing a floor), and relay what a positive impact this has on their lives.

As a calligrapher, I've been running my own business, Letters In Ink, for over ten years. I also practice pottery, with a line of flower pots that was sold at boutique plant stores all over Manhattan. I'm a watercolor student, I love woodcarving, and learning how to play the harp and guitar. I love to read non-fiction, which inspired me to start writing. My first book, The Elephants In My Backyard (Penguin Random House Canada), chronicles my journey spending seven years chasing after the lead role in Life of Pi.

Summer to me means swimming in the ocean as much as I can! I spend most of every summer in rural Rhode Island, jumping into the Atlantic almost every afternoon, in between painting and making pottery.
