Figs in a Bowl Study

This was the first painting I did in Istanbul, after settling in at my hotel. 

I ventured out from my hotel in search of local fruit to paint and found pomegranates at a charming old fruit stall with a wood-paneled interior. I returned to the shop almost every day to buy fruit to eat and paint - strawberries, figs, melons and these pomegranates! 

Of all the paintings I did on this trip, this is one of two favorites. I focused on capturing the powdery dullness on the outsides of the figs and was very happy with how this study turned out.
