Fig Study

Painted in Istanbul, Turkey.

I ventured out from my hotel in search of local fruit to paint and found pomegranates at a charming old fruit stall with a wood-paneled interior. I returned to the shop almost every day to buy fruit to eat and paint - strawberries, figs, melons and these pomegranates! 

In this study, I attempted to capture both the dullness of the figs' skin and the fleshy rich interior. This was a more successful attempt compared to the other similar study listed here, painted on the same day. Compared to my early attempt (on the first day of painting figs) to paint the inside of a fig, I was getting better with each attempt.
