3 Figs Study

Painted in Istanbul, Turkey.

I ventured out from my hotel in search of local fruit to paint and found pomegranates at a charming old fruit stall with a wood-paneled interior. I returned to the shop almost every day to buy fruit to eat and paint - strawberries, figs, melons and these pomegranates! 

In this study, I attempted to capture both the dullness of the figs' skin and the fleshy rich interior. I failed with the skin, overpainting and fussing to the point of ruining my attempt, but I was very happy with how I painted in the inside of the open fig. I ate this one when the painting was done, as part of the clean-up process!
